Volterra is 20 minutes away from our hotel on foot (the first leg is uphill, but the return is a nice downhill!) or 3 minutes away by car. The small town is very well kept, a true historical town and has interesting monuments, museums and buildings from an historical and artistic point of view: from Etruscans to Romans, up until the Middle Ages. Along with its beautiful historical sites, Volterra is famous for alabaster, the white, luxurious material used for interior decors and to create elegant items for the house.
Volterra was recently in the news because the writer Stephenie Meyer chose to set her book, New Moon, the Twilight sequel, right in this Tuscan town. This attracted all the fans of the vampire saga, which, following in the footsteps of Edward and Bella, came to find the origins of the Volturi.
